I Am Who Am

“I Am Who Am” are golden words taken from the Book of Exodus – Chapter 3:13-14.  They were declared today, March 23, 2025, at Mass this Third Sunday of Lent.

Moses said to God, “But when I go to the Israelites
and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,

if they ask me,

‘What is his name?’ What am I to tell them?”

God replied, “I Am Who Am.”

“This is my name for all time; by this name I shall be invoked for all generations to come” – Exodus 3:15

I Am Who Am

What drew me to write this afternoon?  It was my morning prayer, listening to the Word of God read at Mass and then the little bonfire I created on the coffee table where a napkin was left too close to a burning candle.  I had my own burning bush!!!

So – I “listened to see” what the Holy Spirit was guiding me to – and that pathway led me straight down the steps to the computer desk to write a blog and post it today.

The “why” is because our God is calling to us so tenderly and lovingly at this moment in time.  He wants us to think of Him alone and to talk to Him!  We can make our Lenten practices so difficult but Jesus seems to be reaching out. . .asking to “grasp His Hand” during His walk to Calvary.

He and I

My morning routine usually consists of picking up the book – “He and I” – by Gabrielle Bossis.  At this point, I would imagine so many of you know it is my “go-to” book after the Bible.  For those who do not know this book – Gabrielle was a French Catholic laywoman, nurse, playwright, actress and mystic that lived from 1874 -1950.  She is best known for this book “Lui et Moi” translated into “He and I.”  It’s truly a timeless spiritual classic of a transformative journey that she takes listening to the words of Jesus within her soul and recording them to help us understand how to please our Lord!

I Am

Sitting with the book before leaving for Mass, I opened up randomly to a page in “He and I” and my eyes rested on three lines – they were as follows:

“Think of Me, of Me alone.

Anything else, anyone else, how could they ever upset you?

I AM.

BE MINE”

So you can imagine my surprise when I was seated in the pew and listened attentively to the “Word” being spoken by the lector at Church.  Blown away I was to hear “I Am!”

Yes, Jesus was speaking and I had to think what did those two words mean to me?  And what was the rest of the passage that I had read earlier in the morning in the book – “He and I?”

I had to go back to the book . . .and this is where you find me now. . .sharing with all of you. . hopefully to take in for the rest of your Lenten Journey to Calvary with Jesus and then on to Resurrection Day.

Lose Yourself in Him

Jesus tells Gabrielle the following:

“Complain about yourself.  Say to Him, “when will You heal me, My great Friend, of this or that.”

Just that sentence alone tells us that Jesus is “waiting to hear” what we need to share with Him during our personal Lenten journeys.  He tells Gabrielle that His Heart is a “hospital, you know, and doesn’t one sometimes come out of a hospital cured?”

“Trust in Me with all your heart since “I Am” your great Friend.  Keep your glance ever ready for Mine.  Don’t let anything preoccupy you unless it be your work for My kingdom.”

Flock of Doves

Gabrielle asks a question of Jesus in this passage – “Lord, what can one do to bring all people to You like a flock of Doves?

Here are golden words – words to take into our heart as we travel the next weeks of almsgiving, fasting and prayer:

“Pray; speak to Me and don’t be ashamed to mention My Name.  Don’t you know that blessings down flow at the mere mention of My Name?

So many words said in one day in the world, and so rarely the word, “God” is heard. . .Yet all live and have their being in Me and I have saved everyone.  Wouldn’t it be only natural for them to think of Me?

Forget Everything

Jesus told Martha the well known words in the Gospel of Luke about the “better part:”

“Martha, Martha,” He said, you worry and fret about so many things and yet few are needed, indeed only one.  It is Mary who has chosen the better part; it is not to be taken from her.”

Here I would like to repeat the words from above taken from “He and I” –

Think of Me, of Me alone.

Anything else, anyone else, how could they ever upset you?

I AM.

BE MINE

Ascend with Him

Let us grasp “His Hand” tightly and ascend with Him.  He knows where He is taking us. . .

“Let your spirit soar and sing.  Let Me feel your impatient eagerness to meet Me, your submission, your desire for My glory, your rejoicing in My joy to be at rest with My Father.”

Jesus tells Gabrielle – “no words are necessary.”  He further tells her the following:

“Keep me company more and more.  You can never know what it means to Me to be treated as an intimate friend.  It is so rare.  I delight in this as a human being. Don’t you love someone who finds rest in your company and who wants to confide his secrets to you?  And I, the sensitive One!

Seek Him – I Am Who Am

“This is my name for all time; by this name I shall be invoked for all generations to come” – Exodus 3:15

We, one of the generations to come  – hear the words spoken to Gabrielle again!!!!  Let us listen to see Him – the God who loves us beyond our comprehension.

“Seek Me”

“And don’t ever let Me go away”

“Keep Me Faithful and Joyous Company!”
