Supernatural Bread

“Supernatural Bread” seems to be the “two words” as a title that would best describe what I wish to share with all of you in this particular blog.

Since last Thursday, I’ve been turning over in my mind and in my heart how I wanted to present it in this posting.  The subject of my writing relates to “Supernatural Bread” – the “Bread come down from Heaven.”  Last Thursday, April 23rd was a significant day for me.

You see, it was the first time I was able to return back to Daily Mass and receive Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament after 7 days of “without” receiving “Him.”

The “Our Father” prayer asks the Father to “give us our Daily Bread.”  There’s a reason Jesus gave us the word “daily bread” as opposed to “weekly” or “monthly bread.”

I was starving for this “Supernatural Bread” because I went without “Jesus” for seven days.  Usually I don’t miss Mass except for sickness or whatever good reason “calls” me to be absent.  This time it was something I needed to do. In many ways it could be described as “sacrificial love” for my family members.  They needed my help and therefore I needed to be present and available.

This “seven day” fast caused me to reflect on what it meant to be “without Jesus”  for so long a time.  I invite you to enter into that journey as well.

Holy Mass

I will never forget April 23rd when I was able to resume my regular schedule and return back to daily Holy Mass.

I arrived early and found myself taking a place near the table that holds the “ordinary bread and wine” to be brought up as gifts to the Priest.  When that time came it seemed nobody else was getting up.  Finally another woman approached the table and I jumped out of my seat to join her.

I held the “bread” in my hands and as I approached the Priest, I thought to myself….it’s the “bread” that will soon be changed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.  It’s the “bread” that I had been without for seven days!  It wasn’t “wonder bread” from the supermarket or “Dave’s Healthy Thin bread!”  This “bread” was going to be changed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ!

I believe I wore the biggest smile on my face and on my soul! Soon I would be receiving the “supernatural bread” that I yearned for.  It makes me think what is the definition of “supernatural” anyway?????

Merriam Webster defines it as follows:

“of or relating to an order of existence beyond the visible observable universe – especially of or relating to God.”

He Comes to Us!

I chose the above image because it best describes what I felt as I made my way up to the Altar to receive Holy Communion.  I was going to meet Jesus and He was going to meet me in the Sacred Host.  He exists throughout the ages to meet us at the altar!  How beyond awesome is that!

He found a way to stay with us until the end of time!  Jesus is in every Tabernacle – in every Church waiting for us…so He can take that walk to our soul, feeding and nourishing us.  He’s there waiting daily for us!  Can you imagine that!  He is there waiting for you to sit before Him in the Tabernacle!

For me – seven days had been a long time to “not” receive the Most Sacred Body and Blood of Jesus.  To say I was overjoyed to receive Jesus that day – can never describe what was felt within. As Fr. Matt placed the Eucharist on my tongue – I was “filled” with the Presence of God throughout my body.

Returning to my pew, and very taken off guard, I broke down in tears.  I was overwhelmed with what just transpired.  I realized I had been starving for Him.  In those seven days, I had been “without” Him!  Yes….I could find “Him” in Scripture at home and in my prayers….but nothing compares to having “Him” within our souls.  He is our nourishment – our strength – our everything.  He is our “Beloved.”

Bread from Heaven

I started this blog yesterday afternoon and ended it above with that last sentence.  When I sat with Jesus before going to bed….I asked Gabrielle Bossis  (He and I) to help me find words of Jesus to help me finish my writing. I was quite sure that there was something within the divine pages of this beautiful dialogue between them.

Gabrielle didn’t disappoint me. I opened up randomly to the following – actually with the title:

“Holy Thursday!”

“Have you ever thought of the burden of love that made Me institute the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist – this perfect harmony between that which is within and that which is without.  I burned with desire to belong to all of you, to remain in your possession right to the end of time, to be something you could take, eat and drink.

To be shut into your Church to wait for you there, to listen to you, to console you in the most intimate union of all..

Won’t you love Me more for that?  What language must I speak to make you understand Me?  If your faith is too weak to find burning words, ask Me to speak to Myself in you – Myself to Myself.

Place your heart between My fingers as a harp with its strings tuned and stretched and I’ll make music that will ravish earth and heaven.”

Ravished

What a word is “ravished!” Its definition is to “overwhelm with emotion and enrapture.”  Absolutely that is what I felt at the 12:10 Mass on April 23rd in receiving the Body and Blood of Christ.    I was ravished by Him….and He wants to ravish “you” and the “world.” He invites us ALL to this sacred moment of “Divine Love.”  Not one soul on earth can love us like Jesus Christ loves us.

I wrote this blog specifically in hopes that someone who might read it will feel the “Call” to come back to the “Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist.”

Don’t be “without” Him….

Come to Him….and you will see how He loves “you!”  Specifically and intentionally “you!”

St. John Henry Newman tells us the following:

He is not past, He is present now.

And though He is not seen, He is here.

The same God who walked the water,

Who did miracles, etc.

Is in the Tabernacle.

We come before Him,

We speak to Him

Just as He was spoken to…. years ago!

Thank You Lord Jesus

I end this blog with words of Gabrielle to Jesus and His reply back to not only her but us as well!

Gabrielle responds to Jesus with these words of thanksgiving:

“Thank you Lord! How could you come down to earth, knowing that You were going to suffer so much?”

Jesus replies:

“And if I had not come down,

could I have had the joy of instituting My Eucharist

where I remain right to the end of the centuries?”

  1. Dear Anita, how beautifully you describe your longing for Jesus in the Holy Eucharist after He kept you from receiving Him for seven days…how He caused you to desire to receive Him in the Holy Eucharist more than ever before and how He gave you the words to tell us how much He desires to be with each one of us. I pray this blog is read by countless souls who don’t know that Jesus is truly present and waiting for them in every tabernacle in every Catholic Church in the world…and I pray they open their hearts to receive Him.
Thank you and God bless you.

    1. Cathy – you “nailed” it on why I write. To share my experiences and hopefully touch other hearts with the Love of Jesus for them. YES, YES, YES…
WE PRAY FOR CHURCHES TO BE OVERFLOWING WITH SOULS RETURNING BACK TO THE SACRED HEART. GOD BLESS YOU and thank you for always being a faithful reader to my blogs.
